Like everything in this world there is good and bad, and we as individuals have a choice. With your CD there is no option, certain programs give nothing away in the title of their Read Me files. So once you have opened the damn thing all hell breaks loose. Screen colours change, the sound vanishes, application unknown errors every other program, strange files appear in the system folder, on the desktop and I didn't put them there, as for the preferences folder, it has a life of its own. Files breed and multiply without my knowledge or consent. My Mac freezes, oh I know opt-command-esc that will do it. Forget it, I click on the Reboot button just for another one to emerge and then another, and then another. By the time I have got through the CD, I have rebooted my Mac about six or seven times.
I feel very strongly about this issue, you would not purchase a part for your prized Ford Cosworth if you knew every five miles it would break down. My Mac is just as important to me. Being a reputable magazine with a strong influence I would say it's in your best interest to do something about it. Mac's with CD are getting cheaper, more sales potential for MacFormat.
Would it be possible for you to create an index file that contains information, description and comments of all the software on your CD ROM. This would be an ideal way to view the software without having to open every application and file. This way you can choose to open applications that interest you and find them fast at a later date. Either as a small database or as a file written in DocMaker. I'm sure it wouldn't take much more additional work. The magazine itself is very good, I would like to see more information on programming languages and how to write little ditties. More tips on ResEdit please.
